Shipboard Mounting Systems

We offer two commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) shipboard mounting systems: the KX1125 steel track and the KX1130 aluminum track. Both mounting systems have been qualified to meet the following military standards: MIL-S-901D Shock Test, Medium Weight and MIL-STD-167-1A Vibration for Shipboard, Hull-Mounted.

What is a shipboard mounting system?

Shipboard mounting systems are essentially a set of tracks with straps. The tracks of our mounting systems are secured to the deck, and the included straps are used between the tracks to secure items (e.g. usually cabinets).

Industry Applications

Similar to the industry applications for KevLok tie-down shelving, shipboard mounting systems are also typically used to secure the following items in workstations aboard U.S. Navy ships, U.S. Marine Corps portable shelters and command centers:

  • Electronic equipment
  • Hard Copy files
  • Binders
  • Books

These applications may also be similarly used for both law enforcement and civilian purposes.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Why are the threads of the bolts different?

The mounting bolts for the strap end plates have 1/2-20 threads while the 2”-long deck bolts have 1/2-13 threads. This eliminates confusion about which bolts are to be used where.

2. How tight should the ratchet fasteners be tightened?

They should be tightened as tight as you can tighten them with your hands without mechanical aids such as “cheater” bars.

3. What if I need something similar but slightly different than the standard shipboard mounting system, like a longer track?

As a company, we pride ourselves on meeting our customers’ needs, from simple to complex. Therefore, if you need something “just like this but …”, contact us and we will do our best to provide what you need.

4. If my cover gets damaged, can I replace it easily?

Yes. Replacement covers are for sale for all of our access ports, desiccant baskets, and records holders. The replacement is easily accomplished in minutes using common hand tools. Please specify the part number of the item you are requesting a replacement cover for as we make many custom items with unique part numbers.

5. Do you make custom ports for special applications?

Yes, we do. Many of our customers work with us to develop custom applications using our access ports.

These features include an extra-long cover lanyard, special finishes, special gaskets, stainless steel housing and mounting nut, RFI protection, and extended wall thickness housing.
