Molecular Sieve Desiccant Calculator
How to Use This Calculator
To use this calculator, fill in the temperature of the environment in which the desiccant is used, as well as the desired humidity level, and then click the “Calculate” button. The Moisture Capacity by weight percentage will display in the Results column, along with the humidity level in four different units.

About This Calculator
Molecular sieve is a popular desiccant because it produces very low humidity levels in air. Molecular sieve’s moisture capacity, which varies with temperature, pressure, and humidity, must be known in order to achieve a specific humidity level. Typically, this data is obtained from an isotherm chart. This online calculator replicates the functionality of an isotherm chart at 1 atm pressure, providing a user-friendly interface for quick calculations.
Example Calculations
To calculate the moisture capacity of molecular sieve for protecting an electronics assembly from liquid water condensation, fill in 25°C and 5000 ppmv in the Inputs column, and then click “Calculate”.
To calculate the moisture capacity of molecular sieve desiccant for protecting an airborne optical assembly at 40,000 ft from both condensation and frost, fill in 25°C (ground level conditions) and -40°C Dewpoint in the Inputs column, and then click “Calculate”. This calculation assumes that the internal pressure of the optical assembly is maintained at about 1 atm pressure.
Note: desiccant typically holds 2-4% residual moisture as-received, and this residual moisture needs to be subtracted from the calculated moisture capacity for real world applications. Refer to the technical datasheet from your desiccant supplier for the maximum residual moisture present in your desiccant.
