The Arizona Technology Council (AZTC) has recognized AGM Container Controls (AGM) as Southern Arizona’s Manufacturer of the Year at the AZTC’s annual Tech + Business Expo, as a result of an unsolicited nomination earlier this month.
The announcement, naming AGM as the winner of the award, came as “a pleasant surprise”, said AGM President and CEO, Howard Stewart. “We didn’t self-nominate for this award, and I had actually directed my marketing team to NOT apply for this award, as I had other objectives that I needed this team to accomplish. So, it came to me as a complete surprise when I first heard that we had won the award. That said, my interest was piqued by the anonymous nomination, so I decided to look into the matter.”
Stewart later learned that Joel Lohr, who is an Ambassador to the AZTC, as well as a Materials Manager at Dataforth Corporation in Tucson, was the individual who submitted the nomination for the award. Lohr indicated that his reasons for nominating AGM for this prestigious award are that AGM’s designs are innovative, its engineering is impressive, and its social engagement in the Tucson community is noteworthy, adding that such a business should be “loudly applauded.”
The AZTC is a trade association for science and technology companies that work to further technology innovation in Southern Arizona through education and leadership. The AZTC provides a platform for networking and fosters collaboration between companies throughout the region.
For 46 years, AGM has been a leader in the design and manufacturing of environmental control hardware for military, aerospace, and logistics markets. In addition, AGM is the parent company of Ascension, a manufacturer of commercial accessibility lifts for individuals with disabilities.
AGM is no stranger to receiving recognition, having previously been honored with: The United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona’s first ever “Spirit of Tucson” award, the Arizona Association of Industries: Manufacturer of the Year award and, most noteworthy, the United States Chamber of Commerce’s “America’s Small Business of the Year Award.”
