Tri-Sorb® packaged molecular sieve is the desiccant of choice for the most unique and demanding applications. AGM's Tri-Sorb GDTII packets are much more expensive than Desi Pak clay desiccant or Sorb-It silica gel desiccant, and is typically only used in high temperature (>200°F) and low relative humidity packaging applications. Tri-Sorb products also cannot be reactivated for multiple uses.
Molecular sieve desiccant is a synthetically produced crystalline metal aluminosilicate zeolite. Molecular sieve particles have a uniform pore structure (created during the manufacturing process). This enables molecular sieve to separate molecules by size.
Molecular sieve desiccant also adsorbs molecules on the basis of polarity differences due to electrostatic attraction. Water molecules, for example, are adsorbed strongly by Tri-Sorb because they possess a high degree of polarity and have the proper molecular size for entrance into the sieves' pores.
GDTII Packets: This packet material is the best value for most small packaging applications. GDTII is tear-resistant, flexible, low-linting, allows a high adsorption rate, and features good seal strength. Tri-Sorb in GDTII packets is also approved by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration for direct contact with food and pharmaceuticals.
Tri-Sorb GDTII packets are available in gram sizes that are typically used to protect small enclosures; they range in size from 1 gram to 5 grams.
