The Minority and Small Business Alliance of Southern Arizona (MSBASA) has named AGM Container Controls, Inc. (AGM) as their “Manufacturing Firm of the Year for Southern Arizona” for 2016. The MSBASA recognizes companies throughout Southern Arizona for high performance in their respective fields, as well as for their impact on the surrounding community.
Since 1970, AGM has led in the design and manufacture of environmental control hardware for the military, defense, aerospace, industrial, and container markets, producing breather valves, desiccators, humidity indicators, tie‐down straps, shock indicators, and much more. In order to diversify, AGM partnered with Ascension for the purpose of manufacturing and marketing accessibility lifts for the disabled, eventually purchasing the company in 1995.
In addition, AGM has conducted a workplace campaign for the United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona (UWTSA) every year since 1970. By encouraging employees to be more involved with the UWTSA, AGM has received the United Way Gold Award for the last 18 consecutive years. As such, AGM is recognized as having the longest string of United Way Gold Awards in Southern Arizona.
Furthermore, AGM partners with San Miguel High School in South Tucson to provide internships for several students each year. This internship program provides students with half of their tuition costs, while also giving them an opportunity to gain important work skills and experience in preparation for college.
“The key to AGM’s success,” says AGM President and CEO Howard Stewart, “is the people that work here. Everyone has a stake in the daily success of the company and, in return, this company takes care of them.” AGM has grown from a 17 person operation to employ over 100 people, all from around the local Tucson community, contributing a combined $80.5 million in payroll over the years. Owing entirely to the hard work and dedication of these employees, AGM’s annual revenue has grown from $228,000 in 1970 to $21 million in 2015.
